Mindful eating and listening to your body
Mindful eating means paying more attention to what you eat and how you feel while eating. It can help you notice hunger, fullness and eating habits more clearly.
Slow down when you can
Eating more slowly may help you enjoy food and notice when you begin to feel satisfied. This can be harder when life is busy, so aim for progress rather than perfection.
Reduce distractions
Eating in front of a screen or while multitasking can make it harder to notice how much you have eaten or whether you are still hungry.
Things to pay attention to
- How hungry you feel before eating
- How quickly you are eating
- Whether you are still enjoying the food
- How full you feel afterwards
Be curious, not critical
Mindful eating is not about judging yourself. It is about noticing patterns and learning more about what supports you.
Use it as one helpful tool
Mindful eating can sit alongside meal planning, balanced meals and regular eating. It does not have to replace other approaches to healthy eating.
